Apple Blossom Caravan & Camping Park: The Campsite We Keep Coming Back To 🌸🏕️

Seven nights, Pitch 7, Yorkshire sunshine, a few outdoor adventures, plenty of food, a bit of wild swimming… and absolutely no desire to go home.

There are campsites you visit once, campsites you quite like, and then there are the campsites that somehow become part of your annual calendar.

For us, Apple Blossom Caravan & Camping Park is firmly in that last category.

We return every year, and this August we spent seven nights on electric Pitch 7 — and, once again, Apple Blossom did what Apple Blossom does best.

It didn't disappoint.

In fact, we're starting to think we're not actually capable of going to Yorkshire without ending up here.

And honestly… we're absolutely fine with that. 😂

🌸 Welcome to Apple Blossom

Tucked away in the countryside near Hirst Courtney, on the North Yorkshire and East Riding border, Apple Blossom is a family-run, pet-friendly campsite owned by Lisa and Dean Howsam.

The site opened in 2019 and has built up a seriously loyal following since then. The campsite itself describes its location as being near Goole and Selby, with walking and cycling routes on the doorstep and plenty of attractions within easy reach.

And that location is one of the things we love most.

You're surrounded by countryside, you're close enough to Selby and York for days out, and you've got the Trans Pennine walking and cycling route running right by the site.

It's peaceful without being miles from civilisation.

Which is camping code for:

"I can hear birds in the morning, but I can still get a takeaway."

That's basically the dream, isn't it?

🏕️ Our seven nights on Pitch 7

For this trip, we stayed for seven nights with electric on Pitch 7.

One of the first things you'll notice about Apple Blossom is that the pitches are BIG.

Properly big.

You're not playing the traditional British campsite game of trying to reverse your caravan into a pitch while simultaneously avoiding three guy ropes, someone's awning and a family eating sausages six inches from your bumper.

The campsite has both grass and hardstanding pitches, with the pitches described by the owners as being generously sized and capable of accommodating larger units and cars.

For us, Pitch 7 gave us plenty of room to settle in and actually enjoy our pitch rather than treating it like a temporary parking space.

And after seven nights, that's important.

Because once you've unpacked absolutely everything you own, apparently it's now illegal to leave.

❤️ Lisa & Dean: the real reason we keep coming back

We could talk about the facilities.

We could talk about the location.

We could talk about the pub, coffee, food vans, countryside and huge pitches.

But the biggest reason we keep coming back is Lisa and Dean.

They're the sort of campsite owners who make you feel like you're returning to somewhere familiar rather than simply checking into a holiday park.

And we're not the only ones who think that.

TripAdvisor reviews repeatedly mention Lisa and Dean's friendliness, helpfulness and the genuine family feel of the site. One recent returning guest described Lisa and Dean as amazing and said they "can never do enough to help."

That's exactly how we'd describe them.

They're friendly, approachable and down to earth.

There's no pretence.

It's just good old-fashioned Yorkshire hospitality.

And let's be honest, if you've ever met a Yorkshire person who didn't have an opinion on something, you'll know that "down to earth" is basically a five-star compliment. 😂

🍻 The Old Stables Bar

Then there's The Old Stables Bar, right on site.

This is one of those little additions that turns a good campsite into somewhere you actually want to spend your evenings.

After a day out exploring, there's something very satisfying about getting back to the tent, getting changed and wandering over for a drink without having to worry about who's driving.

TripAdvisor reviews regularly mention the on-site bar and its friendly atmosphere, while recent guests have also highlighted the reasonably priced drinks, seating and family-friendly feel.

And because this is Yorkshire, we feel legally obliged to mention the important question:

Is there a pub?

Yes.

Is it on site?

Yes.

Do we need to say anything else?

Probably not.

☕ Coffee, cake and food

Apple Blossom has also become rather good at feeding campers.

There's the little Coffee & Cake Pod, a self-service coffee setup and various food vans depending on the weekend.

Recent TripAdvisor guests have mentioned the coffee hut, well-stocked shop, pizza van, burger/kebab van and Sunday breakfast options.

Which is fantastic because camping works on a very simple principle:

Calories consumed outside count differently.

We don't make the rules.

A coffee and cake after a morning walk?

Camping.

Pizza after a day exploring?

Camping.

A burger because you've been "very active" despite spending most of the afternoon sat in a camping chair?

Still camping.

🚿 Facilities

The main facilities are another area where Apple Blossom gets a lot of praise.

The site has a dedicated utilities block with showers, toilets, a family wet room and disabled-access facilities. The owners currently list five showers across the main facilities, including an adult-only shower room with two separate cubicles.

Clean facilities are one of those things you don't properly appreciate until you've stayed somewhere that doesn't have them.

Apple Blossom gets consistently good feedback for cleanliness, with recent reviewers describing the shower and toilet facilities as spotless or very well maintained.

And after seven nights, that's definitely something we appreciated.

🚲 Walking, cycling and the Trans Pennine Trail

If you like getting outside, the location is brilliant.

The Trans Pennine route runs by the site, making Apple Blossom a particularly useful base for walkers and cyclists. The area around Selby also has countryside routes, riverside walks and cycle routes through surrounding villages.

You can quite literally leave the campsite and start exploring.

No complicated itinerary.

No sat-nav meltdown.

Just pick a direction and go.

Although, as experienced Yorkshire explorers, we recommend eventually turning around.

Otherwise you could end up considerably further from the tent than you originally intended.

🏊 Our must-do: Pool Bridge Farm

One of our favourite things to do when we're staying at Apple Blossom is head over to Pool Bridge Farm for some proper outdoor swimming.

• 

If you've never been, this is one for the adventure list.

Pool Bridge Farm is a family-run wild swimming, sauna and wellbeing destination in the Yorkshire countryside, with four lakes and five saunas.

And for us, it makes a brilliant addition to an Apple Blossom stay.

Go for a swim, spend some time outdoors, then head back to camp feeling like you've achieved something much more impressive than simply surviving another day of holiday.

⚠️ Important: book before you go

This isn't one where you can simply turn up and hope for the best.

Pool Bridge Farm requires tickets to be purchased online in advance, and if there are no tickets available, they're fully booked and don't sell tickets on the gate.

They also have saunas and paddleboarding, with sessions that need to be booked separately/in advance.

So our advice?

Book it before you arrive at Apple Blossom.

Future-you will thank you.

🌽 York Maze

If you're visiting with kids — or you're a grown adult who enjoys getting spectacularly lost in a field — York Maze is another great day out.

And when we say maze, we mean maze.

York Maze is home to Europe's largest maize maze and has more than 20 rides, attractions and shows.

For summer 2026, the attraction is open from 11 July to 3 September, with opening hours of 10am to 6.30pm and last admission at 3pm. Tickets must be booked online in advance and aren't sold on the gate.

There are loads of different things to do beyond simply wandering around wondering where you've been for the last forty minutes.

There's the Giant Maize Maze, Jurassic Maize, Maze of Illusions, Musical Maze, rides, slides, play areas, shows and plenty more.

Basically, it's the sort of place where you go for a couple of hours and somehow end up staying all day.

And if you do visit:

Take a map.

Unless you're confident enough to spend the rest of the afternoon living amongst the corn.

🏰 Selby is right on your doorstep

Apple Blossom is also a great base for exploring Selby.

Selby itself is a historic market town with plenty to see, including the impressive Selby Abbey.

The Abbey dates back to Norman times and is free to enter, with medieval architecture, famous stained glass, hidden carvings, children's trails and guided tours available.

There are also independent shops, places to eat, markets and Selby Park, so it's worth allowing yourself a few hours rather than simply passing through.

And if you're travelling without the car, Selby is particularly handy because it has rail connections, including services towards York, Leeds, Hull and beyond.

🎣 Fishing, countryside and plenty more

And this is where Apple Blossom really works as a base.

You don't have to spend every day driving for an hour to find something to do.

There are walking routes, cycling opportunities, countryside, fishing and plenty of places to explore around Selby and the surrounding villages.

If you want a lazy day, stay at the campsite.

If you want adventure, head out.

If you want culture, go into Selby or York.

If you want food, you've got plenty of options nearby.

And if you want to sit in a camping chair doing absolutely nothing while holding a cup of tea…

Yorkshire has that covered too.

Visit North Yorkshire highlights the site's proximity to Snaith, local pubs, shops, country pursuits and nearby cycle paths, while also noting that York, Leeds and Hull are all accessible for day trips.

🌅 And then there's the sunsets...

One of our favourite things about Apple Blossom is simply being there in the evening.

The countryside.

The open sky.

The quiet.

The tent lit up with fairy lights.

A drink.

And then those Yorkshire sunsets.

There are some evenings where you don't need an attraction, an itinerary or anything else.

You just sit outside and think:

"Yep. This is why we camp."

And that's probably the biggest compliment we can give Apple Blossom.

⭐ Our verdict

After seven nights on electric Pitch 7, we're still struggling to find a reason not to come back.

Actually, that's a lie.

We've found one reason.

We have to go home eventually.

And we don't like that bit.

Apple Blossom isn't the biggest campsite we've ever stayed at, and that's part of its charm.

It has a much more personal feel.

It's family-run.

It's friendly.

The pitches are spacious.

The facilities are clean.

There's a pub.

There's coffee and cake.

There are food options.

There's plenty of green space.

Dogs are welcome.

Kids have room to play.

The Trans Pennine route is on the doorstep.

Selby, York and a whole host of attractions are within easy reach.

And most importantly, Lisa and Dean genuinely care about the people staying there.

That's something you can't manufacture.

You either have it or you don't.

And Apple Blossom has it in spades.

🌸 Would we recommend it?

Absolutely.

In fact, we're not going to gatekeep this one.

If you're looking for somewhere in Yorkshire that works equally well for a chilled camping weekend, a family holiday, a cycling break, an outdoor adventure or a base for exploring York and the surrounding countryside…

Put Apple Blossom on your list.

Just don't blame us when you book it and then start planning next year's return visit before you've even left.

Because that's what happened to us.

Again.
